The Workshop
In the fall of 2016, Future West hosted a workshop about community-based collaboration at Fairmont Hot Springs, Montana. The workshop brought together folks from 44 organizations spanning 5 states. The following case studies are just a few of the stories harvested from the workshop that we thought were especially insightful and offered invaluable lessons for those involved with community-based collaboratives.
Case Studies
Toni Ruth, executive director of the Salmon Valley Stewardship, shared an example of relearning the basics during a challenging moment with the Lemhi Forest Restoration Group.

The Blackfoot Challenge formed in 1993 after two decades of local landowners working together toward consensus-based conservation. Rancher Jim Stone and biologist Randy Gazda opened the workshop with some insight into their experience in community-based collaboration.

The workshop's guest speaker, Nils Christoffersen recounted attendees with lessons learned from his early career in Africa to his current position at the helm of Wallowa Resources as executive director.
